Nyepi – Indonesian new year’s

Nyepi is a Balinese “Day of Silence” that is commemorated every Isakawarsa (Saka new year) according to the Balinese calendar. Nyepi is a day of silence, fasting and meditation for the Balinese.

 

The pictures of this post are about the ritual of Bhuta Yajna. This ritual is celebrated the day before the Nyepi to make disappear the negativity of the life and restoring the balance between God, Man and Nature. Offerings are made and in the villages there are colorful parades of Ogoh-ogoh, paper and bamboo figures in the shape of demons and evil spirits, which are burned at the end of the journey

Nyepi es el “dia del silencio” de Bali, que se conmemora cada Isakawarsa (Saka significa año nuevo) de acuerdo con el calendario balinés. Nyepi es un día de silencio, ayuno y meditación.

El reportaje de este post es sobre el ritual de Bhuta Yajna. Este ritual se lleva a cabo antes del Día del Silencio para hacer desaparecer los elementos negativos de la vida y restablecer el equilibrio entre Dios, el Hombre y la Naturaleza. Se hacen ofrendas y en los pueblos se realizan vistosos desfiles de ogoh-ogoh, figuras de papel y bambú con forma de demonios y malos espíritus, que son quemados al finalizar el recorrido.
